Micralite Fastfold Super-Lite – First Sighting

I kind of stalked a mom yesterday as she was leaving the library.  Stalk is a bit harsh, but I did hasten my walk so that I could catch up at the street crossing and check out the brand of stroller she was pushing.  It’s a Micralite Fastfold Super-Lite and it’s really cool looking! It has a very triangular seat and a big basket below for storage.  The canopies come in basic black, gray, red, blue and yellow.  Best of all, it is only 14lbs and can be maneuvered with just one hand!

The Micralite company is located in the UK and they launched the Fastfold in 2003 with a unique single handed folding system.  The Fastfold Super-Lite is their latest addition to the brand.

Other Features:

  • Stands upright when folded
  • One-handed steering and precise maneuverability
  • Lightweight – only 14 pounds (6.4 kg)
  • Two position breathable mesh, reclining seat
  • 5 Point Safety Harness
  • Robust 12″ all terrain removable pneumatic rear wheels
  • Lockable 6″ front swivel wheels
  • Easy-grip adjustable handles
  • Available accessories include Multi-Position Handles, Rider, Maxi-Cosi & Graco Carseat Adaptors, Seat Liners, Travel Bag and Rain Cover (all sold separately)

I found a number of places to purchase these online ranging from $249 to $319 depending on where you got it.  Just to name a few… Amazon, BuyBuyBaby, abd Albee Baby.

P’Kolino Toddler Bed & Chair

P'Kolino Toddler Bed and ChairIf you’re a reader, you know I love a convertible bed (from infant through toddler) because you only have to purchase one and it lasts for so long. But, if you used a co-sleeper or mini crib for your infant, you may like this option for when they get a bit bigger.  The P’Kolino Toddler Bed & Chair is a very small, and very stylish toddler bed.  And, it does turn into a chair when they out-grow it!

P'Kolino Chair

As with everything on CityBaby Living, this has a small footprint – 30″ x 52″ x 20″ (WxLxH).  In fact, it fits a standard crib mattress which makes it easy to buy sheets for!  Depending on when you transition to this bed, your child should be able to be in it for several years without taking up any more room than a crib.  The price is relatively reasonable – $289 from their website. The bed/chair combo comes in this Orange/Natural color as well as a White/Natural and White/Cafe con Leche (dark wood).   But did you really think I’d show anything except for the Orange version?

StrollAway from MetroTots

Leave it to City-Moms to create usable products.  I love this storage unit called StollAway from MetroTots.  The history of how Mary Ann Schwanewede came up with it:

“Without thinking much of it she trekked to the baby gear store and asked for ‘a hook to store my folded stroller’ . The salesman looked at her blankly and said no such thing existed. She found this hard to believe; she couldn’t be the only one in this city of 8 million, many of whom are parents, to have this problem. Everywhere she looked in her downtown neighborhood she saw a parade of strollers, ‘where was everybody putting them?’, she wondered.”

The StrollAway features include:

  • Heavy duty steel construction
  • Slides easily over the door
  • Spacer included to fit any door width
  • Folds flush to the wall when not in use
  • Fits multiple types of strollers – from umbrellas to Bugaboos
  • Price is $39.95 from multiple sites and stores – not too bad for getting space back
  • A great way to get your stroller off the floor and out of the way!

Brooklyn Kids are Lucky

Brooklyn swingingAs I say in my About Me section, one of my inspirations for starting CityBaby Living is my older sister, who I always just call Sister (she’s actually Aunt Sister around these parts). She lives in a 650 square foot apartment in Brooklyn with her husband and new daughter.  They are truly living the CityBaby life.

Peep and I love to visit them for many, many reasons…this picture is just one of the benefits that Peep gets to enjoy.

Brooklyn kids are just so lucky…

Toy Organization – Our Nook Needs Help!

Maybe I should be blaming Pinterst.  Or maybe it’s because I’m new to blogging and suddenly parts of my house are “live” for everyone to see.  But ever since I posted about Peep’s toy nook in our office, the lack of beauty and organization I showed is really bugging me!  Now every time I walk into the room I cringe as I look at the piles of overflowing toys with no good place to put them!  Peep’s toys have evolved and the organization has not.

This nook is really just that and the storage can’t be taller than 30″.   I need something that can store both cubes (to hide some of the little pieces of junk girls seem to crave) and board games.  So what should I look for???

The p. pod 5 in 1 crib from Gro Furniture

p. pod 5 in 1 companion cribMore crib envy here.  The p. pod 5 in 1 companion crib from Gro Furniture is both small and smart. It is one of my favorite types of baby furniture to write about here on CityBaby Living, because it is a convertible product. Not only will it grow with you as your child goes from infant to toddler, but then it can become a play space or even a desk. The dimensions 32.38″ x 55.38″ x 37.25″ (DxLxH) will fit nicely in a small space but is slightly larger than the Stokee Sleepi and the Leander 4 in 1 cribs I’ve already written about.

However, neither of those cribs can boast that it takes less than 2 minutes to set up, and there are NO TOOLS NEEDED! That’s right, there are no screws or nails needed, all of the pieces snap/slide together.  There’s a video on Gro Furniture’s home page if you want to see just how easy it is.

p. pod 5 in 1 companion crib Toddler Conversion

Toddler Conversion with rails

The base price for the p.pod is $990 and this does not include the mattress.  The conversion kits (toddler, desk/play table, daybed) are all add ons as well.  If you know that you love it and will keep it for the full run, they do offer a bundle cost which is $1,390 and saves you $295 from the a la carte costs.

Gro Furniture also offers the bam b. which is essentially the same crib except that it is made from sustainable bamboo instead of the solid birch the p. pod is made of.  It is also slightly deeper than the p.pod and more expensive (base is $1,490).

So far, these two crib options are the only furniture options from Gro Furniture – I hope they continue to add to the line as these are such great additions to the crib world!  I’d love to see a high chair from them…

OMG – The Tripp Trapp Newborn Set!

Tripp Trapp Newborn SetOk, so I have a 4 year old and I’m still coveting baby items.  Look at this new item from one of my favorite brands, Stokke!  It’s called the Trip Trap® Newborn Set™ and I am so jealous of parents that will get to use this!

I mean look at it!  It uses the Tripp Trapp base (which I love) and then there is a baby seat that attaches to it!  The beauty of the Tripp Trapp is that the child is right at the table with you – and now you can do this with your baby?  It also can be used on the ground so there is no need for another baby bouncer – this is one of my main objectives for CityBaby Living – products with multiple uses! I might need a second kid just for this product!

Spoiler Alert: I haven’t found a place in the US that carries it, but that will SURE to be only a matter of time.

In the meantime, here are some other amazing benefits right from their website:

  • From birth and up to 20lbs
  • Allow the chair to be used from the baby is born, before it starts sitting.
  • Bring the baby to the family table from birth
  • The unit is easily detachable and can be placed on the floor
  • The unit has a base shaped for rocking when placed on the floor
  • Rubber profiles under the base hinders the unit to slide on the floor and they protects the floor from scratches
  • The unit has red-green indicator which turns green when it is mounted correctly to the Tripp Trapp® chair
  • The unti has a 5-point harness
  • Included  in the unit we have added additional rear gliders (“Extended Glider”) which can replace the gliders attached to the chair. The gliders increase backwards stability
  • Side support and correct reclined angle give the baby good support and comfortable positioninig
  • Padding can be detached and be machine washed
  • A detachable toy hanger to mount a toy for the baby to look at and reach for
  • The unit is made of high quality plastic which Stokke offer a 3 year warranty for, when owner register it online at stokke.com
  • A range of washable and reversible textile sets are available in different colors/patterns

Pets When You Want Them

There are many, many, many pros and cons to bringing a pet to come live with you.  Living in the city or a small apartment means another being in an already tight space.  We would love to have a dog, but since my husband and I both grew up on farms, the idea of a dog who has to go on walks and has no sense of freedom is a tough sell.  And I’m allergic to cats so that decision is easy.  But every kid needs to grow up with a pet – right?

When Peep was about 2, I brought home a cardboard cat from work (at the time, I was a Brand Mgr for a top Natural Pet Food co).  She loved it.  We never named her, but she lived in the corner of our living room for several years.  Peep would stop and pet her or have a little chat.  Really, she was the easiest pet I could ever ask for.

I just came across people that agree!  These Flat Pets are created by Chris Ratcliffe in London.  I found a Canadian website that you can purchase them from.  So which do you think you want?

You could also easily DIY your own pet from cardboard and a blown up picture of your favorite pet.

Astro High Chair from Valco

Valco - Astro High ChairThe Astro High Chair from Valco is a very economical and modern high chair which would be a great addition to a small space.  Two words: IT FOLDS.  Yes, it folds down into nothing and can be easily stored when not in use.  I love that style doesn’t always come with a high price tag.

When it is in use, the dimensions are 22.4″W x 31.5″D x 37.8″H and folded down it becomes 22.4″W x 31.5″D x 6.7″H.  There are a number of places to purchase this online, and the price range is between $129 – $149, so it is on the less expensive end of high chairs.

It comes in five different colors: B&W Circles, Ivory, Graphite, Chocolate and Aqua.

Additional Features:

  • Recommended for 6 months up to 44lbs
  • It’s light! Only 3 lbs!
  • There’s a removable tray with three settings
  • A 5 point harness will keep your child sitting “still” while eating

Peep’s Toy Nook

We don’t have a lot of extra room in this apartment.  And what room we have has already been utilized for things like couches, and a table to eat at.  So when it came time to find room for toys, we didn’t quite know what to do.

Having been around enough kids to know they often prefer a shoe box to toys until they are much older, we bought a brown storage bin that could fit all of Peep’s toys until she was at least 1 year old.  She loved dumping it out, finding things, and using other items around the house.  And we loved bringing in toys slowly to our environment.

As she got older, she did get more toys and we cleared out the corner of our home office to dedicate to toys.  We still try to keep the toys to a limit and there is some overflow outside of the office, but for the most part, having a dedicated area that is hers, keeps the toys there.  She knows where and how to pick up – everything has a place, and we don’t have a house full of toys in every nook.
